The Purple Ochre Sea Star, Pisaster ochraceus, is common along the West Coast of the US where it prefers to feed on California Mussels, Mytilus californianus, and is often found beside Aggregating Anemones, Anthopleura elegantissima. Several of the different colors these sea stars exhibit are present here. At low tide these stars are exposed at the base of Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach, Oregon. |
